Headshot of Provider, Ms. Guan

Meet Ms. Guan

Hello, my name is Shu Ping Guan. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (BBS#: LPCC.14546) with a deep-rooted background in supporting adolescents and young adults as a school counselor since 2015. I am passionate about helping individuals navigate life's challenges. Having witnessed firsthand the profound impact of mental health struggles on adolescents' self-esteem, relationships, and outlook on the future, I have also seen how a supportive therapeutic environment can radically impact quality of life for the better.

I work with clients on Thursdays in the late afternoon and early evenings at The (K)Now Clinic, or other times by appointment. Sessions are currently offered on a primarily in-person basis.

My Story

My educational journey began at the University of California, Berkeley, where I pursued architecture, and later I earned my masters in school counseling and clinical counseling at the University of San Francisco. I hold both PPS and LPCC credentials. My primary focus lies in working with teenagers and young adults, particularly within the school setting. I draw upon a blend of therapeutic techniques, including but not limited to motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solutions-focused therapy, to tailor my approach to your unique needs.

Growing up in a small farming village in China before relocating to Downtown Los Angeles at the age of five, I have always been a compassionate listener amongst my family and friends. My upbringing in an urban environment surrounded by friends from various immigrant backgrounds and communities has given me a deep appreciation for the complex ways in which personal struggles intertwine with broader socioeconomic and political issues. In my practice, I am honored to continue being a trusted confidant, guiding individuals towards personal growth and understanding.

Throughout my career, I have primarily worked with clients facing challenges related to anxiety, depression, and ADHD. My approach revolves around empathetically understanding your experience and collaboratively creating practical steps to improve your quality of life. I firmly believe that therapy is a journey embarked upon together, one that requires compassion and teamwork.

If you're seeking a warm, compassionate, and collaborative therapist who understands the challenges you face, I'm here to support you every step of the way on your journey towards healing and personal growth.
